Continuing Education Scholarship Program
The Martin Luther King Observance Committee of Morris County, New Jersey, is pleased to offer its Continuing Education Scholarship. This program is open to Past King Scholars (2nd and 3rd year) who meet the eligibility criteria outlined below.
In the spirit of Dr. King’s legacy, the Martin Luther King Observance Committee is pleased to initiate this scholarship program to assist our second and third year, college students, in their pursuit of college or post-secondary education. The Scholarship committee will strongly consider the applicant’s MLK participation and financial need in awarding this continuing education scholarship.
The scholarship program’s primary goal is to support the educational attainment of students dedicated to the legacy of Dr. King as demonstrated through a record of community service and a future career commitment of service to others, including striving for ongoing involvement in combatting poverty, discrimination of every category, and other societal ills. Scholarship awards may vary, depending upon the MLK Scholarship Committee’s evaluation and ranking of applications according to merit and need.
The eligibility criteria are:
· Enrolled in a two or four year degree-granting program at an accredited college or university.
· Provide an official transcript of all coursework completed.
· Current involvement in organizations on campus, church, and/or community.
· Maintained Cumulative Undergraduate GPA for the original scholarship of 2.75 or above.
· Adherence to deadline for submitting completed applications and supporting documentation.
· Applicant must be 2nd, 3rd year students to be eligible.
· Provide a Brief (250-500 words) essay on How the Continuing education scholarship will benefit you.
· Must be a past King Scholar.
· Must have previously participated in MLK Day activities.
· Submit a brief video of your activities and achievements since enrolling in college.
The application deadline is July 22, 2024. It is anticipated that the scholarship recipients will be announced in late July or early August, in time for the fall 2024 semester. Funds will be provided to the awardee upon confirmation of enrollment. Any questions may be directed to the Scholarship Committee as indicated below:
